Marostica is the town of the Chess Game with living characters taking pleace in the Chess Square in front of the Lower Medieval Castle. The current historical centre was built by the Veronese dominators “Scaligeri family” in 14th century and is enclosed by long and intact boundary walls with 23 towers.
Only on even years in September it is possible to see the show of the “Chess Game with living characters” re-enacting the marriage of the nobleman Vieri da Vallonara and the beautiful Lionora, daughter of the Venetian town ruler Taddeo Parisio, dating 1454.
