Guided Tours of Villa Godi Malinverni
Villa Godi Malinverni – Tour Details
Villa Godi Malinverni is the first villa designed by Andrea Palladio (1540–1542). At this early stage, the architect had not yet traveled to Rome and had not developed the mature language of temple-fronted façades and long barchesse of the villa-farms: for this reason, the villa presents still experimental solutions, valuable for understanding the evolution of Palladian thought.
Context and Architectural Layout
The villa stands on a hilltop overlooking the valley near the Astico, once essential for irrigating the fields. The composition recalls forms still linked to the medieval castle, with powerful wings that appear to converge when the building is viewed frontally. The result is a solid, territorial architecture, deeply connected to the agricultural landscape.
The Frescoes and Rural Life
The interiors are frescoed by three painters of the Veronese school:
- Gualtiero Padovano
- Giambattista Zelotti
- Battista del Moro
The pictorial cycles depict agricultural work and silkworm breeding, a widespread activity in the foothill area, offering a rare iconographic testimony of the economic and social life of the territory in the 16th century.
Gardens and Park
Behind the villa you will discover:
- a charming rose garden
- a 19th-century English-style park with centuries-old trees
The experience is completed by a small fossil museum, which recalls how these lands were once submerged by the sea, adding a naturalistic dimension to the visit.
